From GPSI to Anaplan: Panasonic Builds a Scalable, Future-Proof Data Architecture
Panasonic Europe B.V., part of the globally operating technology group, faced the challenge of streamlining a complex data landscape. With a growing number of data sources and increasing demands for flexibility, the company initiated a full-scale transformation—moving away from its legacy SAP GPSI solution toward a modern, scalable platform built on Microsoft Fabric and Anaplan. Together with Macaw, Panasonic developed a future-ready solution that elevates data integration, transparency, and performance.
The Challenge: Consolidating Diverse Data Sources Efficiently
The existing BOARD-based platform was no longer meeting Panasonic’s evolving needs. Key challenges included:
- Limited scalability
- Inflexible data formats
- Lack of integration with Microsoft’s ecosystem
Panasonic needed a solution that could consolidate data from various sources—such as SAP, Anaplan, Qlik, and CSV files—validate it, and make it accessible for business processes. The goal: to establish a centralized data platform serving as a reliable “single source of truth.”
The Solution: Microsoft Fabric & Anaplan as the New Data Backbone
Macaw designed a tailored solution based on Microsoft Fabric, implementing a Medallion architecture with bronze, silver, and gold layers. The platform integrates data from multiple sources, validates it using PowerApps and Fabric Notebooks, and delivers it to Anaplan for planning and analytics.
Technology Highlights:
- Microsoft Fabric Lakehouses for structured data storage
- PowerApps for data validation and user interaction
- Azure SQL for metadata management
- DevOps CI/CD for continuous development and deployment
- SAP integration via OData v2/v4
- Migration from SAP APO to Anaplan using Dataflow Gen v2
The project followed an agile methodology, enabling rapid development, continuous optimization, and a smooth transition—including knowledge transfer to Panasonic’s internal teams.
The Implementation: Agile, Integrated, and Future-Ready
The project was executed in multiple phases—from initialization and analysis to development, testing, and handover. Key focus areas included:
- Seamless integration with existing SAP and Anaplan systems
- Development of POS data parsers and validation rules
- Collaboration with the UC4 team for pipeline orchestration
- Empowering Panasonic to independently manage the solution
The Results: Smooth Go-Live and New Strategic Opportunities
The new platform went live on July 1, 2025—on time and without major issues. The integration into Panasonic’s complex SAP environment was executed flawlessly. The solution delivers:
- Faster data processing and decision-making
- Higher data quality and transparency
- Reduced manual effort and fewer errors
- A strong foundation for future innovation
“Macaw convinced us with their proof of concept and executed the migration to Anaplan brilliantly.”
– Srini, Project Sponsor, Panasonic Europe
“The SAP integration was especially well executed. I didn’t expect it to go this smoothly.”
