DevOps Engineer
Are you the Azure expert who, like no other, knows how to bridge the gap between pipelines and people, and do you see AI-Ops as the future?
For you, is Agentic a natural part of the People-Process-Tools story, and can innovations never happen fast enough? Then read on!
What will you do as a DevOps Engineer?
As a DevOps Engineer at Macaw, you’ll work on Azure platforms that need to be stable, secure, scalable, and easy to manage. You’ll support clients in designing, automating, improving, and managing Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS environments. This isn’t just about making technology work—it’s about making it work in a way that aligns with the client’s organization, processes, and ambitions.
You’ll be part of a close-knit team of about 30 engineers, consultants, and architects. Together, you’ll work for national and international clients on cloud environments where reliability, security, governance, and continuous improvement are central. This includes infrastructure as code, CI/CD, monitoring, incident response, cloud governance, identity and access management, networking, and improving platform standards.
Your role extends beyond hands-on engineering. For one or more clients, you’ll develop into a trusted technical point of contact. You’ll understand what’s happening in the environment, identify risks or opportunities for improvement, and help the client make decisions that make sense both technically and practically.
This means you’ll switch between different roles. One moment you’ll be diving into Bicep, Terraform, PowerShell, pipelines, or Azure networking. The next, you’ll be advising on cloud governance, security, lifecycle management, platform optimization, or the impact of new developments within Microsoft Azure, GitHub, and AI-enabled DevOps.
Recent developments, such as the shift toward agentic AI, GitHub Copilot for Azure, and smarter cloud development platforms, are making DevOps increasingly interesting. Automation no longer stops at deployment. The question we’re asking more and more often is: How do we build platforms that help teams deliver faster, more securely, and more intelligently? You play a key role in this.
You’ll also serve as a strong sounding board for the Service Delivery Manager. You’ll help translate technical challenges into concrete improvement actions, conduct assessments, and contribute ideas on how we can continuously enhance our service delivery to clients.
At Macaw, you’ll have the freedom to develop your career in the direction that suits you best—whether that’s Azure Architecture, Azure Networking, Cloud Security, Platform Engineering, or Azure DevOps Consultancy. Over time, you can advance to roles such as Azure Architect or Technical Consultant.
Your Profile
At Macaw, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to further your professional development. At the same time, we’re looking for someone who can immediately add value in complex client environments. You’re technically strong, but you also feel comfortable engaging with clients. You don’t need to have an immediate answer for everything, but you do know how to arrive at sound advice and a workable solution.
We’re looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer with the following background, skills, and mindset:
- You have at least 4 years of relevant experience as a DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or Platform Engineer, preferably in client-focused or managed services environments;
- You have experience managing, improving, and automating Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS environments;
- You have knowledge of Azure DevOps, PowerShell, Bicep, and/or Terraform, CI/CD, containers, networking, security, IAM, and cloud governance;
- You are familiar with Microsoft cloud frameworks such as the Cloud Adoption Framework and the Well-Architected Framework;
- You have experience with service-oriented delivery and ITIL processes, such as incident, change, and problem management;
- You understand the importance of monitoring, logging, security, standardization, and lifecycle management within modern cloud platforms;
- You enjoy advising clients, explaining technical decisions, and implementing concrete improvements;
- You’re hands-on, but you also like to look at the bigger picture;
- You hold AZ-400 and AZ-305 certifications, or are willing to obtain them in the near future;
- Knowledge of GitHub, GitHub Copilot, AI-related Azure services, or platform engineering concepts is a plus;
- You have a strong command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written.
Why Macaw?
At Macaw, you don’t work as an individual engineer disconnected from the client. You become part of a team that helps clients take their Microsoft platform to the next level. We combine technical expertise with a practical, down-to-earth approach.
We’re an international organization with about 400 colleagues. We’re big enough to work on substantial client projects, yet small enough to know each other. Our culture is informal, personal, and focused on collaboration. You’ll have a lot of freedom, but you won’t be on your own. Sharing knowledge, challenging each other, and improving together are all part of how we work.
You’ll work with colleagues who take their profession seriously—engineers, consultants, and architects who take pleasure in finding good solutions, implementing smart automation, and helping clients make real progress.
Everyone is welcome at Macaw
We believe in equal opportunities for every applicant and in a hiring process that is inclusive, respectful, and free of bias. Your talent, mindset, and skills are what matter most, regardless of your background, identity, or beliefs.
